Austin Maynard Architects are celebrating this week after their Terrace House project was awarded a 2023 Building of the Year Award by ArchDaily.
Built by Kapitol Group, Terrace House puts sustainability at the forefront of design, with a suite of passive and technological systems integrated into the design. Including universal use of energy recovery ventilation (ERV), airtightness, high insulation, and photovoltaics – resulting in a NatHERS Rating of 8.1.
In awarding the honour, Archdaily noted that the Brunswick building “is the result of past Austin Maynard Architect’s clients, staff and allies putting their own money at risk to create community-focused homes that are equitable, ethical, cost-effective, robust and resilient in the face of the growing climate crisis.”
This is not Terrace House’s first award. The project also won the Multi-Residential Dwelling category in the 2022 Sustainability Awards, Gold in the 2022 The Good Design Awards, and winner of the 2022 Sustainable Architecture Award from The Australian Institute of Architects.
