S3. Ep2. Talking with David Caputo & Andrew Deveson – celebrating 5 years of Kapitol Group! We discuss the business, challenges and aspirations of a head contractor and the future for the market

In this week’s podcast episode, we speak with David Caputo & Andrew Deveson, the Founders and Directors of Kapitol Group, the No1 Best Company to work for in Australia (2022) and who join us in this episode to celebrate their 5th birthday as a company.

We talked about their background in Construction prior to founding Kapitol Group, how they turned the challenges provided by the Covid lockdowns, into positives and how they have grown the company to a $400M business, in such a short period of time.

We discussed their values and ideas, and aspirations to become the leading head contractor in Victoria.  We covered their standards and expectations to set a benchmark for the industry around work conditions; maximum hour working weeks for Site Managers and Supervisors and 10-in-14-day workweeks for everyone in the company – overall, a pretty fascinating insight into the company.

Amongst other things, in this podcast we discussed:

  • Setting up their business and the challenges
  • Opportunities to make a construction business more efficient
  • The IT platforms and software that they have selected for their business
  • The costs of providing a more flexible work/life-friendly business
  • How and why do they have a stand-alone Training Coordinator in the business and why do those roles add value to the company
  • Their aspirations for the next 5 years.

If you have an interest in the Melbourne built environment, you’ll almost certainly have heard about the waves in the industry that Kapitol Group are making.  If you work in the industry and wondering what and how a business of this size and scale has been so successful over such a short period, have a listen……
