S3. Ep5. Talking with Cian Brennan about construction contract risk, margin and cash-flow, and an up to date look at the current financial issues affecting the building industry

In this week’s episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Cian Brennan, the Managing Director of Quantum Contract Solutions.

Cian has an extensive experience in the construction industry, having worked in Ireland, the Middle East, and Australia. His company now operates in New Zealand, Australia, and the US, supporting building firms with signing lower risk contracts, improving cash flow, and increasing profit margin.

He has spent nearly two decades in the industry, beginning his career in quantity surveying and cost engineering.  Four years ago, he established Quantum Contract Solutions, which aims to assist subcontractors in identifying risk opportunities, improving margins, and avoiding unnecessary expenses.

Cian has a passion for business and particularly businesses within construction – during our conversation, we explored other topics, including marketing strategies for businesses, AI in the construction industry and the benefits of ‘cornerstone content’ to any modern construction business – what is it, and how to create it.

Overall, it was an engaging conversation that covered contracts, business, and important considerations for subcontractors and head contracts.

Amongst other things, in this podcast, we discussed:

  • What entices a subcontractor into a contract?
  • Understanding Vicious vs Virtuous cycles within construction businesses
  • Hostile items subcontractors need to be more aware of to protect themselves
  • Understanding delivery requirements on challenging projects, and the consequences of contract risk

If you have an interest in the building industry, understanding the current predicament builders currently find themselves in, and what the future might hold – have a listen!
